The British-born founder and CEO of an Israeli political consultancy recently received a prestigious industry awards. Aron Shaviv, of Modi'in, was one of 10 international winners of Campaigns and Elections magazine's "Rising Star 2011" award for his work running "research-driven campaigns for center-right candidates in Central and Eastern Europe."

Previous winners of the Rising Star award include political heavyweights such as Rahm Emanuel, David Axelrod and James Carville.

The magazine honored the 32-year-old especially for his successful work for a Slovakian candidate for municipal office, who, less than two months before the election, was polling at just 2.6 percent, over 40 points behind the incumbent.

"I am very keen to apply the same successful formula to Israel, using sound research as the basis to shifting public opinion," Shaviv said at the award ceremony last month in Washington, D.C.

Shaviv, who was born in Oxford, grew up in London and moved to Israel in 1996, kicked off his career as a staffer on Yisrael Beitenu's campaign for the 2006 elections. He later established his own consultancy firm, Shaviv Strategy and Campaigns, working with clients running in presidential, parliamentary and municipal campaigns in Romania, Bulgaria, Serbia, Ukraine, Cyprus, Spain, Croatia, Slovakia and other countries.

In Israel, Shaviv plans on focusing on corporate campaigns and local elections. He says he has already started signing up clients for the 2013 vote. "Here too, the Israeli market is coming to the realization that running a campaign in a world of limited resources without proper public opinion research and a good strategist means having no focus and therefore spreading yourself too thinly," he said.
