The True Finns are striving for 10 to 15 parliamentary positions in next spring’s elections, according to Chair Timo Soini. The party currently holds five MP posts.

Speaking in Pori on Saturday, Soini said he was pleased with his party’s standings in the polls. The True Finns would win 10.1 percent of the votes if an election were held today, according to a poll commissioned by YLE and carried out by Taloustutkimus last month.

Soini said that the True Finns are Finland’s fastest growing party, but added that the elections have not happened yet. He said the True Finns are ahead of their time when it comes to immigration matters and plan to raise the issue during elections.

He also commented on the Social Democratic Party's recent policy document which claims large scale immigrant labour is not needed in the next parliamentary term as the country's unemployment rate is over 300,000.

“How awful. You, the SDP, have jumped on our ride,” Soini said with a touch of irony."
