The newly elected NPP Presidential candidate for the 2012 elections Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo Addo, has thrown a word of caution to the Atta Mills led NDC that 2012 would mark the end of the law Professor’s reign as the President of the republic of Ghana.
Nana Addo was elected flagbearer of the Dankwa Busia tradition for the second consecutive time; this time in a landslide victory over his closest rival, Alan Kwadwo Kyeremanteng and three other contestants, Prof Frimpong Boateng, Isaac Osei and Apostle Kodua.
Delivering his acceptance speech at the Efua Sutherland Children’s park in Accra, where thousands of party supporters had gathered to hear their new leader, Nana Addo assured the rank and file of the party that he would do his best not to repeat his defeat to Professor Mills in the 2008 elections.
“I will not let you down this time,” he said. According to the former Minister of Justice and Attorney General, the NPP would go into the 2012 election on the back of the strong record of the Kufuor administration.
“They at the castle can hear all the cheers and am sure they are paying rapt attention. The message is loud and clear; the NPP is steady, ready and united and going for victory in 2012.”
He paid tribute to Alan and the other contestants for giving him a good run for his money and for accepting the results in good faith.
Nana Addo further called for the rank and file of the party to look beyond this victory and forge ahead for the 2012 elections, which he says demands an efficient campaign machinery.
