Ghana: NPP will lose Election 2012

The Editor-in-Chief of the Insight newspaper says the opposition New Patriotic Party heads to a defeat in the 2012 elections.

Mr Kwesi Pratt says the NPP will lose the 2012 election even if the party “achieved 100% cohesion,” citing the current internal wrangling that seems to have splintered the country's biggest opposition party.

“…the path to power must be one which is free of internal wrangling and baseless criticisms,” he told Radio Gold’s Alhaji and Alhaji programme last Saturday.

The party has had to, in recent times, deal with the issue of flagbearer aspirants raising issues with alleged irregularities with the party’s voters register ahead of congress in August.

The issues have forced discussions between the four of the candidates - except Nana Akufo-Addo - namely: Alan Kyerematen, Prof Frimpong Boateng, Lawyer Kwame Krodua and Isaac Osei, and the Council of Elders of the party Mr Akenteng Appiah Menkah.

Mr Pratt, a leading member of the Convention People’s Party (CPP) and a virulent critic of the NPP, said while the NPP braces for a tough contest in 2012 it should know it is only at the threshold of another defeat.

“…even if the party achieved 100% cohesion; it was totally united and all of its members voted for the presidential candidate of their choice, it will not guarantee them victory in the 2012 elections,” he said.
